When I Die

When I Diesunset over a cove

When I die the sun will set
the moon will rise
And the dawn will come again

When I die the rains will fall and flowers bloom
When I die the birds will return to their nests with food for their young and sing their liturgy of the hours.

When I die rivers will flow to the sea, and salmon will buck the current to spawn
Lovers will take their beloved and whisper sweet nothings as they embrace

When I die the glaciers will continue to melt and wars will be fought and children will go hungry.
People will sleep under bridges in opiate hazes and soldiers will commit suicide, while those not of this nation are sent away to survive without roots.

When I die teachers and doctors and nurses and pastors and priests will touch lives and work tirelessly for peace. And guns will be produced.

When I die tears will fall from those who knew me and loved me, and the next day they will inhale and exhale again.
When I die another will be born.
And the sun will set and the moon will rise.

And the dawn will come again.
When I die.
