How to Procrastinate with Style

I put off writing about procrastination for a long time and I had a lot of (to me) reasonable excuses. My favorite one: “I’m not procrastinating, I’m researching”. I wanted to write about ‘How to not to put things off and why,” but thought it would be a lot more fun to write about how to put procrastination off with style!

Here are five approaches to help you procrastinate effectively (and have fun while you’re at it):

1. Create a Procrastination Bucket List

Make a list of fun things. Filling it with lighthearted activities you can do instead of work is a great way to procrastinate with purpose.

I do it all the time.

I start by brainstorming a list of activities I enjoy or have always wanted to try, such as watching a cat video, trying a new recipe, or taking a nap, and then I find some space for it in my calendar.

Next I turn my list into a bucket list of procrastination activities.

Each time I feel the urge to procrastinate, I consult my list and choose an activity to do instead of work.

This gives me a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, as well as a fun and entertaining break from work.

2. Make a Procrastinate Chart

Using a chart to keep track of your progress can be a great way to motivate yourself and add some humor to your procrastination routine.

Start by creating a chart with a list of tasks you need to complete. I like to doodle on the chart, and use various colored inks. (Doodling also helps the procrastination).

And then for every important thing you just ‘must’ do, leave a space to record what you actually do.

Of course, it can be paralyzing to see how much procrastination is costing you.

That’s why it helps to have decorated the page. Art is therapeutic. Creativity provides great satisfaction.

3. Find a Procrastination Partner

Having someone to share your procrastination experiences with can be a great way to bond and add some humor to your day.

Find a friend who also struggles with procrastination and make a pact to keep each other accountable.

You can share funny stories of your procrastination wins and fails, as well as help each other stay focused on work when you need to.

Plus, it’s always more fun to procrastinate with a friend!

4. Replace Your screen background with a motivational quote or meme.

Efficiency experts are always telling us our workspaces should be clean and inviting.

Well, perhaps. But it is a lot more enjoyable and lighthearted when I replace the usual background on my monitor with a motivational quote or meme.

Hunting for all sorts of funny and inspiring quotes online, or creating your own can take up swaths of time.

Canva is perfect for this!! Not only will this make your work environment more fun, but it will also help you stay motivated and focused on your goals.

That’s my theory anyway.

Just be sure to choose a quote or meme that resonates with you and makes you smile!

5. Host a Procrastinate Olympics

After building your own procrastination practice it is time to host a Procrastination Olympics with your friends as a  fun and entertaining way to use time.

Choose a selection of time-sucking activities, such as playing video games, binge-watching shows, or eating junk food, and compete against each other.

You can create categories, such as “fastest time to beat a video game” or “most junk food eaten in an hour,” and award medals or prizes to the winners.

This is a great way to bond with friends and add some humor to your day.

In Conclusion

In conclusion, procrastination doesn’t have to be a frustrating and stressful experience.

By incorporating these five approaches, you can make the most of your procrastination time and have fun while you’re at it.

Whether you’re making a bucket list, charting your progress, finding a procrastination partner, changing your background, or hosting an Olympics event, you can take great satisfaction in being a world class procrastinator.

Well, now that I finally concentrated long enough to pen these thoughts I need to take a bit of a break.

I’ll go procrastinate a bit before deciding on my next topic to write about.

So, what to do now? Well, let’s see what’s on my procrastination bucket list. Watching a cat video sounds like a great idea! And, maybe I’ll make a cup of tea to go along with it. Ah, the simple pleasures in life!

To be a successful procrastinator

But, before I get too carried away with my procrastination, I need to remember the importance of balancing work and play. While it’s great to take a break and have some fun, it’s also important to get back to work and be productive.

So, after my cat video and tea break, I’ll set a timer for 30 minutes of work, followed by another break. This way, I can enjoy my procrastination while still getting things done.

The key to successful procrastinating

In the end, the key to successful procrastination is finding a balance between work and play. By incorporating humor and lighthearted activities into your procrastination routine, you can make the most of your time and have fun while you’re at it.

Well, now that I finally concentrated long enough to pen these thoughts, I need to take a bit of a break. I’ll go play with the cat a bit before deciding on my next topic to write.

Happy procrastinating!
