The War of Art by Steven Pressfield

On the recommendation of a good friend I finally picked up a copy of “The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield. I had (ironically) resisted this title for a long time because of my knee jerk reaction to the language of violence. I might have titled it ‘The Struggle of Art’ if I had written it, but I am not the great author that Steven Pressfield is.

His writing gets to the point without wordiness in this pocket sized treasure, while the content draws the reader into deep reflection about resistance to following a creative urge. The average chapter in The War of Art is less than a page long, leaving plenty of space to pen thoughts in response to Pressfield’s observations about the struggle to create. For me it has become a journal of my own resistance on the creative journey and I write in it almost every night.
